Udaipur is known for its Handicraft Markets, beautiful  lakes, palaces, forts, and gardens. Of late, it has also become one of the most sought after destination for weddings in India. Check out the important places you must not miss while giving a visit in the city.

City palace

If you have to understand the history of Udaipur, City Palace of Udaipur is the best place. This luxurious palace is the symbol of the legacy of Maharanas.

City palace is located at the bank of Pichola lake. One portion of the Palace is opened as a museum for the tourists. There are two entrance gates made for entry into the City Palace.

Pichhaula lake

The most prominent lake among the city’s lakes is Pichola lake. The beauty of this lake is visible from the City Palace. It is a pleasant experience to watch the wave of lake colliding with the Palace walls.

This lake is about 4 KM long. The lake borrows its name from a nearby Picholi village . There is also a dam constructed on the lake.

Jagniwas Palace

The Jagniwas Palace is located in the middle part of the Pichhaula lake . This Palace was made by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1730 . The king used it  as his summer residence . This white water palace seems floating in the water.

This white water Palace attracts the majority of foreign tourists. Visitors have to arrive at the Jagniwas Palace through a boat. The vaulted windows and umbrellas of this Palace show its beauty from far away only.

Jaysmand Lake

Jaisamand lake is located 48 KM far from Udaipur. This is a huge lake was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh in the 17th century.

The Palace was primarily constructed for the women of the royal family in the summer season. It is the second biggest man-made lake in Asia.

Rajsamand Lake

Rajsamand Lake is located 66 KM far from Udaipur . This lake is made on the Kankroli dam. This lake is constructed by Maharana Raj Singh in 1660.

There is a small palace in the middle of the Lake and the name of this palace is Jagmandir. There are various types of precious stones are inserted in the walls of the palaces. The pictures and courtiers are made at many places on the walls of the palace.

Rang Sagar, Swarup Sagar and Dudh Talai lakes are connected with Pichhaula lake. These lakes accrete in the beauty of this huge lake. These lakes make pleasant to the weather of Udaipur.

Moti Magri

There is a hill in front of  Fatehsagar lake. The name of this hill is Moti Magri . There is the memorial of great warrior Maharana Pratap of Mewar on this hill. He fought several wars till his death in 1597 after managing the reins of Mewar in 1572, in which the war of Haldighati is the most notable.

This memorial was made by Maharana Fatah Singh. There is the magnificent statue of Maharana Pratap installed here, in which he is riding on his horse Chetak. The statues of Hakim Khan Sur and Bhamashah are also visible in the memorial campus.

Ahar

There is a place 3 KM far from Udaipur. The name of this place is Ahar where the umbrella types memorial of Maharanas of Mewad is made.

There is a different sonnet connected with every memorial. There is a rich museum here that reflects the ancient heritage of the Ahar area.

Haldighati

The World famous Haldighati is located 40 KM far from Udaipur.

A tour of Udaipur will be incomplete without a visit to this historical place. This valley is a witness to the fierce war between Mughals and Maharana Pratap in 1576.

Saheliyon ki Badi

Saheliyon ki Badi is also a very famous place in Udaipur. It has a magnificent garden that was made for the women of the royal family in the summer season.

Haveli of Bagor

The Haveli of Bagor is located at some distance from Pichhola lake. The Haveli of Bagor has a museum which attracts the tourists. There is total of 138 rooms in the Haveli of Bagore.

Many rooms from those reflect assets of the Haveli of Mewar. The masonry work is visible in real in the palatial room made above Tripolia and 200-year-old graffiti of Mewar style here.

Jagdish temple is the biggest temple of Udaipur, almost 350 years old!

Situated near the City Palace, it has an idol of Lord Vishnu is setup in Garbhagriha of the temple. The campus of the temple houses the idol of Garuda- the vehicle mount (vahana) of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Several man-made statues made with marble on the walls of the temple makes the temple beautiful.

Ekling Ji Temple, Udaipur

The famous temple of Lord Ekling Ji located 22 KMs from Udaipur. Surrounded by high boundaries, there is a total of 108 small temples in the periphery.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The foursquare statues of Lord Shiva are decorated in the beautiful pavilion of the main temple. This statue of Lord Shiva is made of black marble.
