‘Chor Bazaar’ Market in Delhi : No Item guarantee but incredibly cheap

‘Chor Bazaar’ aka Thieves Market in Delhi

Chor Bazaar or the thieves market in Delhi is India’s oldest flea market of its kind.Earlier the market was located behind the Red Fort as ‘Sunday market’ but now it has been shifted to Daryaganj area around Jama Masjid and Novelty Cinema hall.

The market is known for scrap items , hardware and kitchen and electronic accessories. Daryaganj is very near to Delhi University so it is no surprise that it is one of the most famous markets of Delhi among students. People who are looking for cheap items head over to this market. The sellers offer no guarantee apart from verbal assurance that items will last longer.

The name ‘Chor-Bazaar ‘ was attained due to the re-sale of stolen products basically electronic good. The market is a street market with shops on the roadside or on footpaths.

If you need to get the best buy you will need to get up early on a Sunday Morning. You need to be in the market at 6 AM , if earlier , even better ! In-fact the market operates between 5 AM to 9 AM.The same market at the day time becomes ‘Sunday Book Market’.

There are many pickpockets in the market so you need to be on alert as well. The market also houses branded shoes albeit  stolen , second hand or with minor defects.
